background: the most interesting thing in olympe's life happened before she was born, she thinks. when her mother met her father whom olympe doesn't know, because he left before she was even born. her mother tells her it's because it was in his nature to wander, she doesn't say it's in every man's nature, but olympe can read between the lines and besides, her mother never found anyone else. what she doesn't know is that her father was a woodland fairy and thus the wandering kind who could never have stayed in vierzon with her mother, even if he'd wanted to. she doesn't know his magic has bound her mother's heart to him forever. what she does know is that she herself can talk to birds and understands their language like they were speaking in fluent french. no one else does, she knows and when she told her mother this was a thing, her mother only said, don't tell anyone else, my love and that was it, since then they haven't discussed it. olympe is the odd one out in vierzon, if the odd one out was interesting to others and attracted people as with an invisible charm. she has always had friends. she has had a couple of boyfriends, too, though she honestly isn't that interested. so, if the odd one out was magically forced to fit into the crowd, olympe would be it. she's in her last year of lycée and wants to become a veterinarian, but that means she has to move away, probably to orléans and she is not yet ready to give up the forests and fields that she knows, living on the outskirts of vierzon.

after a sabbatical year, she eventually does her bachelor in veterinary studies in orléans, after which she goes to paris for two years to finish her degree with a masters. due to her talent and extraordinary efforts, she is offered the chance to specialize in aviary diseases in london which she accepts, moving there to live for three years.
